College Application Process
  • Complete College Applications Online, if possible.  If you need a paper application, call the admissions office at the college to request one.  Some applications are also available in the guidance office.
  • Have someone proofread your application before you submit it.
  • Complete a blue college application folder in the guidance office – please allow up to two weeks to process.

Things to include in your blue folder:
–Transcript Request
– Secondary School report (printed from your application – not all schools require one)
– Brag Sheet (if you want a counselor recommendation letter)
– Blue Activity Sheet
– Any other documents that your counselor needs to complete

  • When your transcripts and supplemental information are complete, you will receive a notice in homeroom to pick them up in the Guidance Department.
  • You are responsible for picking them up and mailing them.
  • Do NOT open the envelope!  It is sealed with an official stamp.  If you open it, it is no longer official & colleges will not accept it.

What is in the envelope?

– Your Transcript (includes Cum GPA, Rank, SAT scores & activities)
– Pennridge High School Profile
– Completed Secondary School report (if submitted)
– Counselor recommendation letter (if requested)

  • Colleges will not review your application until they receive all the required information.
  • SAT Scores:

– Please be aware that although your SAT scores are on the second page of your transcript, some schools (like Penn State) require official score reports from the College Board.
–You are responsible for contacting the College Board and having your official scores sent.

Recommendation Letters
  • Your counselor will write a recommendation letter IF you submit a brag sheet in your blue college folder.
  • Teacher recommendations:

– Talk to the teacher(s) you feel would write you the best recommendation letter.  This should be a teacher who had you in a major subject and knows you well.

– If the teacher agrees to write you a letter, give him/her a teacher recommendation request form along with a stamped, addressed envelope to each school that you applied.

– Teachers will mail the letters after they are complete.

– Please give teachers at least two weeks!  Remember that teachers are going above and beyond their normal responsibilities to help you so it will take some time.  Be appreciative!

– It is your responsibility to follow up with the teacher to ensure that your letter was mailed.
